Four Nighthawks Claim NECC Honors
Four Newbury College student athletes received weekly honors by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced on Monday October 18th.
Sophomore Solange Thomas (Webster, Mass.) and freshman Jennifer Lewis (Stratford, Conn.) swept the women’s cross country awards. Thomas was named the Runner of the Week after leading the Nighthawks to a 13th place finish at the 5K Emmanuel Saints Invitational with a time of 22:46. Lewis earned Rookie of the Week honors crossing the finish line 87th out of the 175 runner field in 24:11.
Freshman John Morgan (Cumberland, R.I.) led the men’s side at the Saints Invitational 8K with a sub-30 time, 29:35, to be named the NECC Rookie of the Week. He was the third NECC runner to cross the finish line, placing 40th of 145 runners.
Freshman Jessy Touron (Brockton, Mass.) earned women’s volleyball Rookie of the Week honors, helping the Nighthawks to a 2-1 week with wins against non-conference opponent Curry College and conference foe Elms College. On the week she tallied 20 kills and registered six aces and six total blocks.
