Four Nighthawks Claim NECC Honors

Four Newbury College student athletes received weekly honors by the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced on Monday October 18^th.

Sophomore Solange Thomas (Webster, Mass.) and freshman Jennifer Lewis (Stratford, Conn.) swept the women’s cross country awards. Thomas was named the Runner of the Week after leading the Nighthawks to a 13^th place finish at the 5K Emmanuel Saints Invitational with a time of 22:46. Lewis earned Rookie of the Week honors crossing the finish line 87^th out of the 175 runner field in 24:11.

Freshman John Morgan (Cumberland, R.I.) led the men’s side at the Saints Invitational 8K with a sub-30 time, 29:35, to be named the NECC Rookie of the Week. He was the third NECC runner to cross the finish line, placing 40^th of 145 runners.

Freshman Jessy Touron (Brockton, Mass.) earned women’s volleyball Rookie of the Week honors, helping the Nighthawks to a 2-1 week with wins against non-conference opponent Curry College and conference foe Elms College. On the week she tallied 20 kills and registered six aces and six total blocks.
