On Wednesday afternoon Albertus Magnus won their second game in a row as they defeated visting Newbury College 4-1. The Falcons scored in just the 2nd minute off the leg of freshman midfielder Amanda Roke (Cheshire, CT) on a pass from freshman forward Samantha Corso (Derby, CT). Freshman Briana Tomaselli found the back of the net in the 86th minute of the contest to put the Nightawks on the board.
Pine Manor stormed back from a 2-1 deficit to upset previously undefeated Newbury, 3-2, in Gators head coach Mike Murphy’s first match as a head coach at the Division III level. Tricia Corriveau recorded a match-high four service aces whileTalia Martinez tallied 13 digs and Regina Sibilia dished out 27 assists.
Michael Gulla (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) returns to Newbury for his junior year after completing the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School (OCS) over the past summer. For the last two years, he has been a starter on the Newbury baseball team as well as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Men’s cross country sophomore Jarryl McKey (Brooklyn, NY/Frederick Douglas Academy) and freshman John Morgan (Cumberland, RI/Cumberland) swept the weekly conference Runner and Player of the Week honors. Morgan earned the honors with a time of 24:00 to finish 14th at the UMaine-Farmington Invitational on September 4, 2010.
