Jessica Gould was named the Director of Athletics at Newbury College in May of 2010. Gould oversees the 13 intercollegiate varsity athletic programs and the approximately 140 student-athletes who compete at the NCAA Division III level.
Gould brings a wealth of experience to Newbury after serving as the Assistant Director of Athletics at nearby Regis College in Weston, Mass. While at Regis, Gould was responsible for supervising the part-time coaching staff, overseeing the department's operating budget, all athletic facilities, assuring NCAA compliance, game day management and acted as the scheduling coordinator. Gould’s work at Regis was honored with the 2010 National Association of Collegiate Woman Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) Judith M. Sweet Commitment Award for her outstanding leadership, commitment and guidance within intercollegiate athletics.
Prior to her position at Regis, she served as Assistant Vice President of Sports Management for the Special Olympics of Massachusetts. Along with her staff, she was responsible for planning, organizing and executing the training and competition for four state-wide tournaments. The events annually involved as many as 2,800 athletes and coaches competing in 24 sports overall. Gould also served as the Head of Delegation for the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Ireland.
Gould has extensive training in event management, having experience with events including the 2001 U.S. Senior Open, BankBoston Ryder Cup Invitational, and the 2003 NCAA Women's Final Four in Atlanta, Georgia.
Gould received her Masters of Science in Education with a concentration in Sport Management from Springfield College where she was a graduate assistant for the women’s basketball program and worked as the Sports Information Assistant for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Gould earned her Bachelor of Humanities and Fine Arts in Journalism from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, minoring in African American Studies. Gould was also a two-sport varsity athlete at UMass, playing both field hockey and basketball.
Additional experience includes high-school teaching and coaching at her alma mater, Acton-Boxborough Regional High School where she was most recently named Assistant Coach of the Year in 2009 by the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association. Also a member of the high school's Athletic Hall of Fame, Gould starred in field hockey, basketball and softball for the Colonials.
